Trump Says Apple Can Make IOS in America

A White House spokeswoman recently announced that US President Donald Trump is confident that Apple can make IOS and other products in the US. During a press conference, Carolyn Levitt responded to a question about possibly moving iPhone production to the US and stated that Trump believes in the idea. She emphasized that the country has a capable workforce, sufficient technical knowledge, and the necessary resources. Levitt also mentioned Apple’s $500 billion investment in the US and said that such a significant financial commitment shows Apple’s confidence in the country’s capabilities.

About the domestic production line from Donald Trump!

Trump plans to impose significant tariffs on goods imported from countries such as China, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and members of the European Union starting today. He had previously announced that companies like Apple should move their production lines to the US to avoid these tariffs. However, according to MacRumors, driving Apple’s complex supply chain to the US would face significant obstacles. Aside from the high costs of the move, finding the right skilled workforce for Apple and its supply partners in the US is simply impossible.

Tim Cook and Their View

IOS CEO Tim Cook explained 2017 that iPhone production is done in China because of the country’s high expertise in advanced technologies. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently made a similar point, saying that millions of Chinese workers are engaged in tasks such as tightening the tiny screws of the iPhone, a comment that some media outlets have seen as a sign of his and Trump’s misunderstanding of Apple’s activities.

404 Media Report

According to a report by 404 Media, Apple’s suppliers are listed on a 27-page document that covers more than 50 countries. The list doesn’t even include the sources of rare earth elements used in the iPhone, which come from 79 countries and cannot be manufactured in the US. So even if Apple were to move production to the US, it would still not be exempt from tariffs due to its reliance on foreign parts.

iOS phone price Supposeke

If manufacturing is just the final assembly stage, and assuming the US has a skilled workforce (which it does. In that case, it isn’t), the difference in wages and cost of living in the US compared to other countries would significantly increase the price of the iPhone. IOS has yet to respond to the tariffs officially. Still, reports suggest that the company is stockpiling iPhones and is looking to reduce the cost of imports from China by relying on imports from India, which has lower tariffs.

Apple’s $500 billion investment contradicts what some believe: the US.

IOS $500 billion investment in Lieve is dedicated to producing servers needed for cloud computing systems, not iPhones. These servers are products with a specific use and limited demand and differ from consumer goods such as the iPhone. Apple’s previous experience manufacturing the Mac Pro in Texas during Trump’s first term also did not result in favorable results. At that time, a shortage of domestic suppliers, delays in importing parts, and difficulty finding skilled labor caused many problems. Previously, tariffs on goods imported from China were supposed to reach 54%, but Trump recently decided to increase it by another 50%. Starting today, these goods will face a tariff of 104%, a change that will majorly impact import-dependent companies.
