MediaTek has just unveiled its new Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset. It is an upgraded version of the Dimensity 9400 and offers significant improvements in areas such as the processor, AI capabilities, and wireless connectivity. One of the most notable features of this chip is the increased Bluetooth range. The Dimensity 9400 Plus can maintain Bluetooth connectivity up to 15 km, while the previous version only had a range of 1.5 km. This improvement responds to the needs of brands such as Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus, which have recently implemented long-range Bluetooth technologies in their products.
On the processing side, the Dimensity 9400 Plus has a Cortex-X925 core, which has been boosted from 3.63GHz to 3.73GHz. The other cores remain unchanged, including three Cortex-X4 cores clocked at 3.3GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.4GHz. The chip also features 10MB of system-level and 12MB of L3 cache. This combination slightly boosts single-core performance and provides a smoother experience for users.
In AI, the chip still uses the NPU 890, but with the addition of Speculative Decoding Plus (SpD+) technology, new capabilities have been added to it. This technology allows large language models (LLM) to predict the next token in real time and choose the correct option. MediaTek claims that this feature will increase the performance of AI agents by up to 20%.
The Dimensity 9400 Plus supports DeepSeek R1 language models with parameters ranging from 1.5 billion to 8 billion. These models can be run directly on the phone. Although the standard version of the Dimensity 9400 also has this capability, the Plus model offers better performance in this area.
Another new feature is support for low-voltage batteries, improving the device’s charging performance or allowing for thinner and lighter phones. It also supports BeiDou navigation, reducing the time to initial fix (TTFF) by 33%. Other specifications of the chip are the same as those of the standard version. These include an Arm Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, a 5G modem supporting Release 17 and download speeds of up to 7Gbps, and advanced camera features such as AI-powered telephoto zoom, full HDR zoom, and AI Audio Focus.
